DENVER – In case you missed it, a new analysis by the Common Sense Institute (CSI) warns that Colorado’s state government-controlled health insurance system, known as the Colorado Option, could cause negative consequences for Coloradans, including higher costs for health care or reduced access to quality health care services for patients.
As Colorado Politics reports, CSI’s analysis warns the Colorado Option could “force medical providers to either cut costs that could, in turn, affect quality and access, or pass on the losses from the Colorado Option plan to other private insurance plans, including those in the large group market, made up primarily of private insurance offered by businesses with 50 or more employees.”
Had the Colorado Option been in effect in 2021, the system “would have been disastrous for health care providers and for the level of medical care accessible to consumers,” the analysis warns.
